Volvo Key Fob Battery Replacement Tutorial

Show Instructions

  1. Press and slide the black release at the bottom of the key.
  2. As you hold the release pressed, slide the back cover of the remove forward
  3. Unlock the front cover by pressing on the exposed small metal tab.
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver to rotate the cap to the open position.
  5. Note the + on the old battery. Remove the old battery from the key.
  6. Install the new battery.
  7. Place the two covers back on the remove and lock them by sliding them on the remote.

To change the battery on this Volvo remote, you will need a CR 2450 battery. Follow the instructions below.

  1. Remove the metal key from the keyfob. There is a small release switch you need to press.
  2. Use the metal key to separate the shell of the key.
  3. Remove the battery from your Volvo remote.
  4. Install the new battery with + facing up.
  5. Replace the back cover and metal key.

Show Instructions

  1. Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry out the back cover.
  2. Remove the battery from the remote.
  3. Slide the new battery into the key shell.
  4. Reinstall the back cover and test the remote.

  2. Remove the back cover by lifting it and moving it forward.
  3. Remove the battery from the remote.
  4. Install the new battery.
  5. Reinstall the back cover and small screw.

  2. Use the emergency key to pry out the back cover.
  3. Remove the old battery.
  4. Install the new battery with the + on the back.
  5. Close the key fob shell.
  6. Reinstall the metal key.

    On the Volvo XC 90 (2017) fob, we lifted the little black piece at the top, instead of sliding it to open for battery replacement. The little black piece won’t go back down now. Suggestions please ??

    Great Video and awesome work! Really does help someone like me who is well experienced with Japanese cars but not so much with Volvos.
    Most Japanese FOBs last 8-10 years without the need for changing batteries. Do Volvos have similar lifespans?
