Auto Scan

« Back to Glossary

📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary

Auto Scan (also called All System Scan or Full System Scan) automatically communicates with every control module in the vehicle and retrieves all stored DTCs in a single operation. Unlike Quick Scan which only reads the engine ECU, Auto Scan uses manufacturer-specific enhanced protocols to access engine, transmission, ABS, SRS, BCM, TPMS, instrument cluster, climate control, and every other installed module. The scanner identifies installed modules by querying the CAN Bus, then reads codes from each and presents a complete summary.

Auto Scan is the recommended first step for comprehensive diagnostics because it reveals the complete picture. Many driveability problems involve multiple systems — a rough idle could combine an engine misfire code with a throttle communication fault in the BCM, or a no-start might show an immobilizer code alongside a fuel pump relay code. Auto Scan reveals cross-system relationships that Quick Scan misses entirely. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II performs Auto Scan across all supported systems, displaying a clear module-by-module summary.
