BCM
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
The BCM (Body Control Module) is the electronic brain for the vehicle’s body electrical systems — managing exterior/interior lighting, power door locks, power windows, windshield wipers, horn, remote keyless entry, alarm system, power mirrors, heated seats, and other comfort/convenience features. The BCM also serves as a gateway between different CAN Bus networks, manages the vehicle’s sleep/wake cycle for parasitic draw control, and processes inputs from numerous switches and sensors throughout the body.
BCM problems cause a wide variety of electrical symptoms that often seem random: lights flickering, locks cycling spontaneously, windows not responding, alarm triggering falsely, and parasitic battery drain. Water intrusion is the number one cause of BCM failure — check for leaks near the BCM location (typically behind the dash or kick panel area). The YOUCANIC UCAN-II reads BCM-specific codes and provides bidirectional control for testing body electronics functions.
