FCW
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
FCW (Forward Collision Warning) is an ADAS feature that uses camera and/or radar sensors to monitor the distance and closing speed to vehicles and objects ahead. When the system detects that a collision is likely based on current speed and closing rate, it provides visual, audible, and sometimes haptic warnings to alert the driver to brake. FCW is a warning-only system that does not apply brakes — it works in conjunction with AEB, which takes autonomous braking action if the driver does not respond to the FCW alert.
FCW DTCs relate to camera or radar sensor faults, similar to AEB. False warnings can occur when approaching vehicles in adjacent lanes, cresting hills, or encountering metallic objects. Most vehicles allow FCW sensitivity adjustment (near, medium, far) through the infotainment system. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II reads the ADAS module codes that affect FCW operation.
