Present Code
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
A present code (current code or active code) indicates a fault the control module is detecting during the current operating session. When your scanner displays a code as present, the monitored system is actively failing right now — the warning indicator is illuminated. Present codes represent the highest diagnostic priority because you can test and measure the problem in real time with live data, active tests, and physical inspection.
When you read present codes, check associated freeze frame data and monitor related live data PIDs to observe the faulty system in real time. After repair, clear codes and drive through the applicable drive cycle to verify the code does not return. If it reappears, the repair was incomplete. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II displays present codes with clear status indicators to distinguish them from pending, history, and permanent codes.
