What you will need
If the engine level is low, add 5W-30 full synthetic oil to bring the oil level between the Min and Max marks on the dipstick.
Procedure
If your Mazda’s engine oil level is low, add oil to bring the reading up to the recommended level. Below are instructions on adding oil to the Mazda 5 engine.
Park the Mazda 5 on a level surface. This will help you get an accurate reading of the engine oil level.
Turn off the engine and wait for the engine to cool down before you check the engine oil level on your Mazda 5. This will allow the engine oil to return to the oil pan, which is necessary for an accurate reading.
- Set the parking brake.
- Open the hood by pulling the hood release under the dashboard.
- Locate the engine oil dipstick at the front of the engine. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it clean.
Note the Low (MIN) oil level mark. Remove the oil dipstick. Wipe the oil off the dipstick. Note both the minimum and maximum marks. Reinsert the dipstick back into the oil dipstick tube.
Read the oil level. Pull the dipstick out and check the engine oil level on your Mazda 5. The level needs to be between the minimum and maximum mark. Add engine oil to your Mazda5 if the engine oil is below the minimum mark. Follow the instructions as described in the next step.
- Locate the oil filler cap on top of the engine. This is where you add oil to your Mazda 5.
- Add recommended engine oil. Start by adding about half a quart and recheck the level. Add more oil if the oil level is still under the MIN mark. Don’t overfill your oil above the MAX/FULL mark. Only add the recommended oil level in your owner’s manual. Typically, 5W-20 or 5W-30 Synthetic Engine Oil.
Notes
If the oil light remains illuminated even though the oil level is normal or after adding oil, stop the engine immediately and have your vehicle towed to a mechanic. Driving with the oil light on can cause severe engine damage.
