AEB
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) uses cameras and/or radar to detect an impending collision. If the driver has not responded, AEB automatically applies the brakes to reduce collision severity or avoid it entirely. Most systems provide staged response: visual/audible warning, brake pre-charging, then autonomous full braking. AEB became a voluntary standard feature on most new vehicles starting in 2022.
AEB DTCs involve camera or radar sensor faults, obstruction warnings, and calibration errors. False activations (phantom braking) can occur from shadows, overhead signs, or sensor confusion. After windshield replacement (forward camera) or bumper work (radar), AEB recalibration is required. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II reads ADAS module codes related to AEB faults.
