📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
CKP (Crankshaft Position) is the standard abbreviation for the crankshaft position sensor. It reads a toothed reluctor wheel to provide engine position and RPM — critical for ignition and injection timing. Without a valid CKP signal, the engine cranks but will not start. The CKP also serves as the primary input for misfire detection.
DTCs: P0335 (Circuit Malfunction), P0336 (Range/Performance), P0339 (Intermittent). Common causes: heat-related failure, damaged reluctor teeth, excessive air gap, wiring issues. Test by measuring resistance and checking AC voltage during cranking.
Synonyms:
Crankshaft Position, Crank Sensor
