- P0104: Mass Air Flow Circuit Intermittent

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Find and pull the hood release handle under the dashboard on the driver’s side. The release handle is marked with a hood symbol.
- Walk to the front of your vehicle and find the hood safety latch under the hood’s front edge. Push the latch to the side to fully release the hood.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues. In the 2016-2025 Volvo XC90, the battery is located in the trunk on the left side.
- Go to the back of your car and open the trunk.
- Lift the trunk floor and remove two panels on the left to reveal the battery.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Locate the MAF sensor in your engine bay.
- Access the air filter housing where the MAF sensor is mounted. Remove the engine air filter if needed for better access.
- Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the MAF sensor and remove the sensor using a torx screwdriver.
- Install the new MAF sensor, and be careful not to touch the sensors because fingerprints may cause the sensor not to work properly. Verify that the proper orientation matches the airflow direction indicated on the engine bay layout.
Note: Instead of buying a new MAF sensor, try cleaning your sensor with a can of Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner. If cleaning it does not work, then you can replace the sensor. - Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery.
