Learn how to replace the door speakers on a Hyundai vehicle.
The donor vehicle is a 2015 Hyundai Elantra, but these instructions will help you change the door speaker on other Hyundai models, including Accent, Sonata, Santa Fe, and Veloster.
Symptoms
Signs that a Hyundai door speaker is bad include:
- Hiss sound from a blown speaker
- The Speaker coil has become detached from the cone.
- Lack of high frequencies or bass
- You hear rattling coming from the door speaker.
What you will need
- 6.5-inch Full Range Speaker
- Ratchet Wrench
- Metric Socket Set
- Screwdriver
Hyundai typically uses a 6.5-inch speaker for the doors. You could replace your stereo speakers with genuine Hyundai speakers or upgrade the speakers.
There are several highly-rated speakers that you can install that are reasonably priced. Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Full-Range Speaker and JBL GTO638 6.5-Inch 3-Way Speakers are two popular choices.
Procedure
-
Park the Hyundai and set the parking brake.
-
Remove the door panel. To replace the door speaker on Hyundai cars, remove the door panel. Take off the Phillips screws and pop out the door panel. Next, disconnect the electrical connector for the window and mirror switch.
Remove and replace the door speaker. Once the door panel is removed, you can see the door speaker. It is held in place with four Torx-bit screws. Remove the four screws and unplug the electrical connector. If your car has rivets, you must drill them to remove the speaker. Now you can pull out the door speaker and replace it.
Install new Hyundai door speaker. It is time to install the new speaker or upgrade the Hyundai door speakers. You can reinstall a genuine Hyundai speaker or upgrade your sound system with aftermarket speakers. Reinstall the new door speaker in reverse order of removal. Tighten all four screws; otherwise, the speaker may move and cause noises or rattling. Reconnect the electrical wire to your speaker.
Install Door Panel. Reinstall the door panel. Make sure to line up all the white plastic retainers before pressing the door panel on the door.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will aftermarket speakers make a difference on my Hyundai?
Yes. Quality aftermarket speakers can provide that ear-pleasing sound you have been looking for. Aftermarket speakers can improve your Hyundai stereo system by providing crisper music and better bass.
Do I need to install an amplifier on my Hyundai to use aftermarket speakers?
No. While aftermarket speakers may sound better when connected to an amplifier, they will work fine with Hyundai factory stereo/radio. We recommend you stay within the range of RMS required for Hyundai speakers. Remember that a lower RMS power range will work better with factory or even aftermarket stereo. If you plan to install an external amplifier, you should choose speakers with higher RMS.
My Hyundai speakers sound distorted when I turn the volume up. How can that be fixed?
The cone may have disconnected or cracked. This will require the speakers to be replaced.
How much does it cost to replace/upgrade the speakers on my Hyundai Elantra?
Replacing a bad speaker on a Hyundai can cost between $100 and $300. Upgrading the speakers by a professional can range between $250-$700, depending on your selected system. You can upgrade the Hyundai speakers yourself for less than $150.
