Mercedes-Benz CEL On P2187 P2189 P2004 P2005 P2006

Due to the swirl flap system’s failure, the check engine light may turn on in 2005 to 2015 Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with V6 M272 and V8 M273 engines. We see quite frequently that the tumble flap gets stuck activated, triggering fault codes such as P2004, P2005, and P2006.

The lean codes P2187 and P2189 on these engines more often come from a vacuum leak, such as a cracked crankcase breather hose or a leaking intake seal, than from the flaps themselves. Smoke test the intake for leaks before buying a manifold or a repair kit.

Solution
Mercedes-Benz dealership’s recommended solution may be to replace the entire intake manifold, which can be very expensive but fix the problem.
