Towing mode on Tesla

How can I activate towing mode on my Tesla? You’ll need this if you need to load a disabled Tesla on a flatbed or if your Tesla is disabled and you need to push it or move it to your garage. You can also use the tow mode on a car wash.

How to put a dead Tesla in neutral or tow mode

  1. Block the tires to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
  2. Bring up the main menu
  3. Select “Service”
  4. Click on “Towing”
  5. Hold the brake and select “Transport Mode.”  Keep in mind this deactivates the parking brake.
  6. You’re done!

On Tesla Model S, you will need to press the brake pedal, then on the touchscreen, touch Controls > E-Brake & Power Off > Tow Mode.

When Tow Mode is active, your vehicle’s instrument panel displays this indicator light, along with a message telling you that the vehicle can roll freely.

When the Tow mode is active, the vehicle will roll on an incline. Tow mode cancels when Tesla is shifted into Park. According to Tesla, towing a vehicle with wheels on the ground is not recommended. For more specific information, see your owner’s manual.
