2019 Kia Forte Door Window Replacement

Is your Kia Forte’s door window broken or chipped? Don’t take your car to a mechanic! Fix the issue yourself by replacing the window! This guide is a step-by-step procedure for replacing the door window on a Kia Forte 2018-2022.

What you will need

• Prying tool
• screwdriver
• Kia Forte Door Window
• Mechanic Metric Toolset
  • 10mm Socket
  • 3/8″ ratchet wrench

To remove the door panel

The video guide above shows you how to remove the front driver’s-side door panel on a Kia Forte. Steps may vary by door and location.

1. Before you begin, roll your window up about six inches. This will help you remove the bolts that attach the glass to the window regulator later. Then, disconnect the battery to prevent triggering the airbag sensor while you work.
2. Open the door and use a pry tool to remove the plastic cover from the pull cup.
3. Remove the screw from the pull cup.
4. Pop the mirror cover off by squeezing and pulling it out of place. If you are having trouble getting it loose, use a prying tool to pop it off.
5. Use a prying tool to pop all of the connectors around the edge of the door panel.
6. Once the door panel is loose, gently lift it up to remove it from the door, and disconnect the electrical connector on the back of the panel.
7. Put the door panel to the side, and move on to the window replacement section.

To replace the window

1. Remove the two plastic caps circled in the image below. The front (left) bolt only needs to be loosened, but the front (right) bolt needs to be removed completely.
2. Once the bolt is out, carefully slide the old window up. Once it has been raised a bit, drop the front end of the old window into the door, slightly tilt the glass towards you, and slide the window the rest of the way out.
3. If your window was shattered and you need to remove glass from the inside of your door, remove all of the bolts around the inner door panel to gain access to the middle section of the door. This panel will not come off all the way; please do not forcefully pull it out.
4. To install the new window panel, insert the front end of the panel first. Slide it down slightly, then rotate the glass to fit into place. If you’re feeling stuck, refer to the video linked above.
5. Once the window is in place, tighten the front (right bolt), and then screw the rear (left) bolt back in place.

To put the door panel back on

1. Reconnect all electrical connections, and push the door in place.
2. Click the mirror panel back in place, and put the screw back into the pull cup.
