Mitsubishi Trunk Liftgate Won’t Stay Up
If your Mitsubishi’s trunk, liftgate, or hatch refuses to open or stay upright, the support struts are likely worn out and must be replaced. This guide provides instructions on how to replace the tailgate (trunk) struts on a Mitsubishi.
What you will need
- Trunk support struts
- Flat blade screwdriver
- Two people
Procedure
- Open the tailgate, and have a friend keep it open. That way, it won’t fall when you remove the struts.
- Pry off the covers on the top and bottom of the support struts and remove them, one side at a time.
- Install the new struts. They snap right onto the little connectors.
- Test them to make sure that the trunk stays open.
Replacing the trunk supports on a Mitsubishi is easy and can be completed in less than 15 minutes.

No, make sure that your model is listed on the product page. If not, try the dealer for the parts. Mitsubishi parts are not too overpriced compared to other makes.
Hi – Thank you for doing these videos, lifesavers for overwhelmed thinkers like me.
Question – the truck struts you have listed as recommended do not list 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander & I cannot find any that will fit that year. Will these work just the same ?
