Mazda 3 How to Replace the Battery (2013-2018)

How to Replace the Battery on a Mazda 3

What you will need

• 12V Car Battery
  • Group size: 35 or 21R
  • CCA: Min 500 Amperes
• 10mm socket wrench or 10mm wrench

Procedure

1. Unlock the vehicle and pull the hood release under the dashboard.
2. Go to the front of the vehicle and unlock the hood latch.
3. Pull the hood up and set the hood strut to hold the hood open.
4. Locate the battery on the driver’s side of the engine compartment.
5. Loosen the 10mm bolts on the battery terminals and pull them off to disconnect. Disconnect the negative terminal first. 

   

6. Loosen the 10mm bolts on the J-hooks and the battery bracket.

   

7. Detach the J hooks from the battery tray.
8. Remove the battery from the vehicle.
9. Clean the battery tray using a vacuum or damp rag.
10. Get the new battery and place it in the battery tray.
11. Reinstall the protective battery shield by sliding it into the new battery.
12. Attach the J hooks to the battery tray and tighten its 10mm bolts.

    

13. Reconnect the terminals and tighten the 10mm bolts. Connect the positive terminal first, then connect the negative terminal.
