How to Disconnect a Mercedes-Benz ABC Line Without the Special Tool

Need to disconnect your ABC suspension line on your Mercedes-Benz? This guide shows how to release the quick disconnect coupling without the factory ABC line tool, using common hand tools.

The ABC lines on Mercedes-Benz are high-pressure lines; to disconnect them, you need a special release tool or use the method shown in this video.

In this video, we used diagonal cutting pliers to press the sleeve and push up the O-ring inside the female end of the coupling. Another option is to use a 14mm wrench and grind it on one side to make it thin enough to slide behind the sleeve, allowing you to release the quick connect.

Once the O-ring is pressed, you can pull the two hoses away to separate them.

How to Release the ABC Quick Disconnect Coupling

1. Turn the engine off and let the car sit for several minutes so system pressure can bleed down. Never open an ABC line with the engine running.
2. Clean the coupling and place rags or a drain pan under it. ABC fluid will drip out when the lines separate.
3. Slide the jaws of diagonal cutting pliers (or a thinned 14mm wrench, or a 15mm bike pedal wrench) behind the coupling sleeve. Do not squeeze hard enough to cut or crimp the line.
4. Push the sleeve toward the female end to press in the O-ring and release the internal lock.
5. While holding the sleeve back, pull the two halves straight apart.
6. Cap or plug both ends right away to keep dirt out of the hydraulic system.
7. To reconnect, push the male end into the coupling until it clicks, then tug on it to confirm it is locked.
8. Top up with the correct ABC fluid, start the engine, and check the coupling for leaks while a helper raises and lowers the car.
