Door Ajar Light on a 2017 Ford Transit: Quick Fix
This 2017 Ford Transit rolled into the shop with a very unusual issue. The customer complained that the “door ajar” light would not turn off.

To start, I opened and closed every door, putting a little extra force into each shut. After doing this to every door on this van, the light remained on. The next step was to check live data using my full-system scanner to see exactly which door was triggering this light.

During this test, I was sitting in the vehicle with all doors closed. Every door was reading as “closed” except the front driver’s side door. This door was still marked as “ajar”. I opened and closed it a couple more times for good measure, but the door’s status never changed.

Ford Transits are known for door-harness issues, so I pulled the rubber loom back to expose the wires. One by one, I used a hook pick to give each wire a tug. One slid right out of the loom because it was broken. After quickly checking the wiring diagram for this Ford, I was able to confirm that this wire was the “door-ajar” circuit.

To confirm, I located the other end of the wire, stripped both ends, and twisted them together, then shut the door. Just like that, the door ajar light went out. To prevent further issues, I recommended replacing the door harness. You can repair the wire if you are in a pinch, but if one wire has already broken, others are not far behind, so it is best to replace the whole harness just to be safe.
