Reset Acura Engine ECU & Transmission
Need to reset your engine and transmission (ECU) on your Acura vehicle? Learn how to reset the Acura engine ECU and transmission by following the procedures below.
Why Reset Acura ECU?
Newer Acura vehicles monitor your driving habits and adjust the throttle response and transmission shifting points. The problem with this system is that, at times, it decreases throttle response and causes erratic shifting. A quick ECU reset can improve an Acura’s driveability and transmission shifting. There are no negative side effects of this procedure.Reset Acura ECU
- Turn the key to position II. If your Acura has a START/STOP button, press it twice without depressing the brake pedal. DO NOT START THE ENGINE. Turn off the lights and radio.
- Your Acura dash lights should be on at this point. Within 5 seconds of turning on the ignition, press the gas pedal and keep it pressed for 30 seconds.
- Turn the car off and restart it. There will be no confirmation or beep, but the ECU and transmission have been reset. If unsure, repeat the procedure one more time.
- Drive your Acura usually.

Oh my goodness- it works! Thanks so much! I’ve had this happen before and spent hundred having the Acura dealer “reset” my computer. You’re awesome!!!
Had issues with 2016 RDX, 23000 miles, hard shift from 1’st to 2’nd gear. This seemed to get it back to normal! Thanks.
Does this work on a 2013 TL? Great advice if it does.
