Procedure
- Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
- Plug the scanner into the OBDII port. The OBD-II port is on the driver’s side, right under the dashboard.
- Scroll down to Clear Codes. Press OK
Cycle the ignition off and wait for five seconds. - Turn the ignition back on and start the engine. The car should start, and the check engine light should be off.
Can I reset the Mitsubishi check engine light by disconnecting the battery?
Yes. If you disconnect the battery for at least fifteen minutes, the fault codes stored in the engine control unit (ECU) will reset. We do not recommend this method because you will not know if any other issues are present or what is wrong with the vehicle.

Do I need a scanner to clear Mitsubishi codes?
Theoretically, you do not need an OBD-II scanner to clear the codes. If you fix the problem and the vehicle has no other issues, the check engine light will reset.
The check engine light will reset after about three to four days of normal commuting. It doesn’t reset immediately unless you use an OBD-II scanner.
Conclusion
Hundreds of possible problems can cause the check engine light on your Mitsubishi to stay on. The most common issues are spark plugs, oxygen sensors, and catalytic converter failure. Instead of guessing what is wrong, use an OBD-II scanner to read the fault codes.
