Cadillac Check Engine Light Stays On

Cadillac Airbag Light Came On

If the Cadillac AIRBAG light is ON and the “Service Air Bag” message appears in the Driver Information Center, there is a problem with one of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) components.

What Causes Cadillac Airbag Light to Come On?

The most common problems that cause the airbag light to stay on in a Cadillac are:

  • A failed passenger seat mat sensor
  • Previous accident
  • Deployed airbag
  • Seat belt buckle
  • Low battery voltage
  • A defective clock spring
  • Damaged or disconnected airbag wires

A passenger-side airbag warning indicator may also illuminate intermittently if there is a problem with the passenger seat.

Can I drive a Cadillac with the airbag light on?

It is possible to drive a Cadillac with the airbag light on, but the airbags may not function and protect the driver and passengers if you get involved in an accident.

Will the airbags work in the case of an accident?

If your Cadillac airbag light is ON, the airbags may not deploy in case of an accident.

When you drive a Cadillac with an airbag light, you are driving with a disabled safety system. In other words, you and your passengers may not be protected by the airbags if you get in an accident.

We strongly recommend you get your Cadillac airbag light diagnosed by a professional as soon as possible.

In the next step, you will find instructions on how to read Cadillac airbag codes yourself.

How to Reset Cadillac Airbag Light?

YOUCANIC UCAN2 SCANNER

To diagnose and reset the airbag system, you need a Full System Scanner that can read Cadillac airbag system codes. A generic OBD-II scanner can not diagnose the Cadillac airbag system and will not show any codes.

  1. Locate OBD-II Port.  Under your Cadillac dashboard, you will find the Onboard Diagnostic port, also known as the OBD-II port. All 1996 and newer Cadillacs have this port.
connect obd2 scanner to obd2 port

Connect Scanner. Plug the OBD2 scanner into the 16-pin OBD2 port. Note that the port is trapezoid in shape and allows the scanner to connect in only one direction.

  2. Turn on the ignition. Do not start the engine if your Cadillac has a START/STOP button; press the Start button without pressing the brake pedal. check engine light on dashboard
  3. Allow your airbag scanner to power on. The scanner should turn on once the ignition is turned on or to position II. Once the scanner is fully powered, select Cadillac from the menu.

  4. Read Airbag Codes. Follow the prompting on the diagnostic scanner to select your model, then select AIRBAG from the menu.
  5. Scroll down to read codes and scan your Cadillac for airbag fault codes.
  6. If the codes you retrieve are PRESENT status, you will need to fix that problem before you can clear the airbag light. If the status of the codes is STORED, it is ok to clear the code. After you clear the Cadillac airbag light, turn off the ignition and then back on to determine if the airbag light has been turned off.

The codes you get from the airbag module will be very straightforward to interpret, unlike a check engine light, which can be tricky to diagnose due to many possibilities.

I have a 2009 Cadillac STS. The air bag symbol is on all the time. The DIC read “service air bags” every time I start the vehicle. I have had this problem since 2015. Yes it is an expensive repair, but you can still drive your car. The seat belts will provide protect if in an accident. Get it repaired as soon as you have the money.

Air bag light came on and the dic indicates the air bag requires service. Upon investigation, the passenger presence sensor in the passenger seat is shot. The air bags are disabled and it’s a thousand dollar repair at the dealer. Rarely does anybody sit in the passenger seat. It appears that this passenger side sensor is a common failure in other gm models as well.

Air bag light came on in vehicle when no one was sitting in vehicle and has been on ever since. I took the vehicle to dealership paid to have problem diagnosed was told. Passenger seat pressence system failure. Quoted price for $900 to repair. I researched online saw recall for cts from 2005-2007 however not fro the Sts. I contacted gm. Was called back in 48hrs to be told they do not help with fixing anything that is not under recall. Can you please recall the Sts as well. I see so many others reporting the same thing. This is ridiculous. Its the same airbag system as in the cts. This is an important problem. I purchased this vehicle becaus of the safety features. Nothing in the manual says this would need to be serviced or replaced.

My Service Airbag notification and light just started turning on for the first time ever last night.
This happened immediately when I pressed in the button on the windshield washer control to spray washer fluid.
I have tried turning the car off and on multiple times to try and reset just incase it was a weird fault but it still appears.
