Kia – P0102 Code – Mass Airflow Sensor Replacement
When the P0102 fault code is present, the check engine light will stay on, and the engine may shake, not stay running, or accelerate. In addition, fuel economy will decrease. The P0102 fault code was caused by a faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. P0102 fault code means Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input.
This guide looks at fixing the P0102 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input fault code on a Kia. To fix this problem, follow step-by-step instructions on how to replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
Possible Causes
In addition to a faulty MAF sensor, other possible problems that can trigger P0102 on a Kia include:
- Dirty MAF sensor
- Clogged engine air filter
- Mass airflow sensor harness is shorted or damaged
- Poor ground connection
- Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Procedure
In this Kia, the P0102 fault code was triggered by a faulty MAF sensor. Let’s take a look at how to fix this issue.
- Connect the OBD-II scanner to the OBD-II port located under the dashboard.
- Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the accessories position. Dashboard lights will stay on, but do not start the engine.
- Go to the diagnostic menu on the scanner and select read codes.
- Check the stored codes; the scanner will show faulty P0102 Mass or Volume A Circuit Low.
- Pull the hood release under the dashboard and go to the front of the vehicle.
- Press the tab to the left to unlock the hood latch. Then pull the hood up and set the hood rod to hold the hood open.
- Locate the mass airflow sensor on the driver’s side of the engine compartment attached to the engine air filter housing.
- Pull the metal clips of the air filter housing to unlock it.
- Disconnect the electrical connector of the mass airflow sensor by pressing the clip and pulling the connector out.
- Loosen the 10mm bolt on the clamp of the air cleaner hose. Use a 10mm socket and turn it counterclockwise to loosen the clamp.
- Pull the top housing of the air filter up and pull it out from the hose that has a clamp.
- Remove the two 10mm bolts on the mass airflow sensor by turning them counterclockwise using a 10mm socket.
- Pull the mass airflow sensor out from the top housing of the air filter.
- Line up the new mass air flow sensor into the top housing of the air filter and turn it to set it into place.
- Reinstall the two 10mm bolts on the mass airflow sensor to lock it in position.
- Insert the mass airflow sensor into the hose that has a clamp.
- Place the top housing back into the air filter housing and push the clips in to lock it into place.
- Reconnect the electrical connector of the mass airflow sensor.
- Tighten the 10mm bolt on the clamp by turning it clockwise using a 10mm socket.
- Turn the ignition switch to the accessories position again.
- Go back to the diagnostic menu and select erase codes.
- Press enter on the scanner to erase the stored codes.
- Start the vehicle a few times. Then check if the check engine light is still on and if the vehicle still has difficulties starting to reread the codes.
Check Engine Light On
If the Check Engine Light is on after replacing the mass airflow sensor, you can use the YOUCANIC Full System Scanner to reset the check engine light. This scanner can also read and clear fault codes through every vehicle’s control module.
